I dropped my phone in the toilet and realized that I couldn’t remember any of the images. The digital amnesia caused me to look at new images I take as part of a collective and - what I discovered - is that I love seeing a series of pictures together: the before, the after, recognizing the fact that there is no one decisive image and that in the collection it’s possible to step into the photographer’s eye.
Each image mirrors the traditional photographic contact sheet, here produced via a screenshot of the phone’s camera roll. The sequence of pictures makes a new image, something discovered. The point is to see the cross-section of life, re-spliced to highlight discontinuity and connection between fleeting experience, relationships, phases of life and place.
Exhibiting at Holme Kunsthal is the opportunity to prototype an idea for a new photographic experience. The four walls explode the intimacy of the phone into a visible self-portrait.
